2026-11-03: 8 API complaints we heard today
Complaints that English-speaking developers posted publicly between Nov 1 and Nov 3, 2026, paraphrased below with links to the original posts. Each answer uses only what PoYo's public site and docs say today, and links to the page it comes from. Where the docs don't cover something, we say so.
Q1. A "Maps" key called Gemini — and the bill went to $82,314.
What developers are complaining about: A startup story recirculated hard: ~$180/month Google Cloud spend jumped to $82,314 in 48 hours after a public Maps key could also call Gemini; budget alerts only emailed, they did not stop spend (@moshercode, @latchdogapp). Others framed OpenAI/Claude keys as "as valuable as a crypto wallet" after platform breaches (@GowthamZara), or as the inverse of forgotten crypto dust — a forgotten key with a 40k bill attached (@saksonchain, quoting @mdudas).
How PoYo answers: Treat every PoYo key as cash on your server — Getting Started says never put keys in frontend code, mobile apps, or public repos. Documented blast-radius controls on the API key page:
- Revoke / rotate compromised keys immediately.
- Enable an IP whitelist so a copied key only works from approved server IPs.
- Set hourly / daily / total usage caps per key so a lingering secret has a ceiling.
- Send
X-End-User-IDon generation and native chat so you can block one abusive caller with 403end_user_blockedwithout rotating every integration (End-user identification). - Watch
GET /api/user/balanceand stop on 402insufficient_credits_error(user balance, error codes).
Billing is prepaid credits per successful output; failed generation tasks are not charged (homepage, llms.txt). Public docs do not promise refunds for usage made with a leaked key. Contact [email protected] if you believe a PoYo key was misused (Getting Started).
Q2. Vibe-coded /api AI routes: keys hidden, strangers still burn the wallet.
What developers are complaining about: Scans of vibe-coded apps keep finding the same pattern: secrets not in the frontend JS, but the server /api route that calls OpenAI/Anthropic has no login and no rate limit, so anyone can loop it on the builder's dime (@hackorbroke, @hackorbroke, @mendmyapp). Security builders reiterated that models get syntax right and still miss intent — which key is secret, which endpoint needs auth (@pritesh_ghodge).
How PoYo answers: Keep PoYo keys on your backend only (Getting Started). Then layer the documented controls:
- IP whitelist + per-key hourly / daily / total caps on the API key page.
- Require
X-End-User-IDfor multi-tenant callers and block abusers with 403end_user_blockedwithout rotating the whole key (End-user identification). - Put your own auth in front of any route that proxies to PoYo — PoYo's key controls are not a substitute for app login.
- Alert on
GET /api/user/balancedrops and halt on 402 (user balance).
Public docs still do not promise refunds for traffic that hits an open proxy with a valid key. Rotate first, then open a support ticket at [email protected] if needed (Getting Started).
Q3. Solo-dev stack: ChatGPT rate limit, Claude resets in 5h, Cursor says upgrade.
What developers are complaining about: A widely shared solo-founder meme stacked the walls in one day — ChatGPT rate-limited, Claude "resets in 5 hours," Cursor asking for an upgrade, Vercel usage exceeded (@yapmonk). Production threads elsewhere still treat Anthropic 429 rate_limit_error (including long Retry-After windows) as a first-class ops problem, separate from "out of money."
How PoYo answers: PoYo chat is prepaid credits per successful output, not a rolling 5-hour / weekly subscription wall (homepage, llms.txt). Credits never expire and there are no subscriptions. Cap a runaway coding agent with per-key hourly / daily / total limits (API key page).
Separate the codes (error codes):
| Code | Meaning on PoYo |
|---|---|
| 402 | Insufficient credits (insufficient_credits_error) — hard stop; do not retry as if it were throughput |
| 429 | Rate limit exceeded (rate_limit_error) — wait / queue |
| 502 / 503 | Upstream / busy — retry with backoff |
Generation throughput defaults to up to 20 new requests per 10 seconds per account on /api/generate/submit; overage returns 429 and does not enter the queue. LLM endpoints are currently not rate limited (Getting Started). The docs describe no automatic failover between labs when a subscription tool hits its own wall — build that in your client if you need it.
Q4. You paid for a Claude plan — but claude -p billed the API key.
What developers are complaining about: Claude Code's own docs say that if ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is set in the shell, claude -p always uses it and does not ask — so subscription users can silently burn Platform API spend instead of plan usage (@AmrTawfik160).
How PoYo answers: PoYo does not mix a consumer "plan allowance" with a separate Platform bill. You create keys on the API key page, authenticate with Authorization: Bearer … (or x-api-key on /v1/messages), and spend from one prepaid credit balance (Getting Started, llms.txt). Chat is available via OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions / Responses, Claude Messages, or Gemini-native — pick a model ID and read live pricing at https://poyo.ai/models/<id>/llms.txt (chat models). Empty balance returns 402, not a silent plan→API switch (error codes). Cap each integration key; unset or rotate any key you do not intend a CLI/agent to use.
Q5. Multi-provider ops tax: accounts, keys, billing, regions, limits — times N.
What developers are complaining about: Builders argued the hardest part of shipping AI products is often not picking a model — it is juggling separate accounts, API keys, billing, regional availability, usage limits, and integration shapes per provider (@Uty_bby). Nearby posts pitched unified APIs when Claude limits run out and providers speak different request languages (@Uty_bby).
How PoYo answers: PoYo is a unified API key across image, video, music, 3D, and chat (API overview, llms.txt). Media models share one async submit → status / webhook flow; chat uses the documented OpenAI / Claude / Gemini-shaped endpoints. One credit wallet; live schemas and prices at https://poyo.ai/models/<id>/llms.txt. Cap keys on the API key page; check GET /api/user/balance (user balance).
Getting Started sets realistic stability expectations and does not document automatic transparent failover between upstream labs — switch model IDs in your client when you need a different provider.
Q6. Aggregator / free-tier shared pools return 429 before your own quota feels used.
What developers are complaining about: English Reddit and gateway threads (including r/openrouter and related LLM-gateway discussions) keep reporting shared upstream pool 429s on free or lightly funded tiers — your account still has credits, but the shared route is saturated — plus opaque routing between model variants. Bootstrappers also chase higher TPM through hosted aggregators when direct neocloud quotas are tight.
How PoYo answers: On PoYo, treat codes distinctly (error codes):
- 429
rate_limit_error→ back off / queue (generation default: up to 20 new/api/generate/submitrequests per 10 seconds; LLM endpoints currently not rate limited) (Getting Started). - 402
insufficient_credits_error→ top up; do not retry as rate limit. - 502 / 503 → transient upstream / busy; exponential backoff.
PoYo is one key and one credit wallet, not a multi-provider auction with silent FP4/FP8 swaps. Failed generation tasks are not charged (llms.txt). Prefer webhooks over aggressive polling for long media jobs. Docs do not claim automatic provider failover or a published multi-tenant free-pool SLA — if you consistently hit 429 on generation, contact support for a higher limit (approvals are handled cautiously).
Q7. ChatGPT Pro's monthly API credits are not more Codex product quota.
What developers are complaining about: Clarifiers kept circulating: eligible ChatGPT Pro / Business monthly API credits ($100 / $200 / $500 by Pro tier, etc.) land in a linked API organization, not as extra ChatGPT or Codex product allowance; unused credits expire each cycle; Codex via API keys is often called out as not covered (@gzzonkugood, also @park_danie36173, @quotadiff).
How PoYo answers: PoYo does not gate credits behind another product's subscription claim button or monthly expire window. You top up credits on the dashboard; they never expire; there is no subscription (homepage). One balance covers image, video, music, 3D, and chat (llms.txt). Create keys at the API key page; check GET /api/user/balance (user balance). When the balance is empty you get 402 insufficient_credits_error, not a fake-429 for "promo credits gone" (error codes). Failed generation tasks are not charged (llms.txt).
Q8. One Claude Code task burned 1.2M+ tokens in ~30 minutes on "simple" work.
What developers are complaining about: A June-dated Claude Code report (issue #68619) resurfaced: one task burned 1.2M+ tokens in about 30 minutes on what should have been a git clone and a find, after a subagent hit a permission denial and the agent loop kept going (@NatureBlueee). Same week, builders kept reminding people that agent steps rebill context and that cheaper unit prices still inflate totals when volume explodes.
How PoYo answers: Price-per-token math does not cap monthly burn — your credit balance and key caps do. Operational controls documented today:
- Per-key hourly / daily / total caps (API key page).
GET /api/user/balancebefore large agent batches (user balance).- Treat 402 as a hard stop; treat 429 as pace-and-retry (error codes).
- Do not blindly resubmit generation work: submission retries are not deduplicated and may create another task (Getting Started).
- For long media jobs, prefer webhooks; failed tasks are not charged (llms.txt). Generated media is retained 3 days — download promptly (Getting Started, video models).
There is no documented agent "stop condition" product that auto-kills a runaway tool loop for you — set key caps and build client-side budgets if you need that.
